...Beaches near Stavanger...

Stavanger and the surrounding area around have some of Norway's finest beaches. From pure white sand to small, cozy areas with grass or rock surfaces. Temperatures can be rather cold, though. The large beaches on the west coast are normally colder than the small beaches on the east coast or between islands.

Be careful of the small streams and rivers that flow into the sea - some of these can be contaminated with sewage or fecal from farms.

The picture on the right is taken at Sola Beach or Solastranden as it is called in Norwegian. This beach has been the host of Anthony Gormley's sculptures "Another Place". The beach is used for all kinds of recreation; windsurfing, bathing and walking.
